1932 Wolseley Hornet Special. March Bodied. We are very proud and honoured to offer this car from the famed Hamilton Collection. The father and man behind racing superstar and six times Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, Anthony Hamilton has succeeded and built over the years arguably one of the greatest ‘concours’ quality collections in the U.K of Iconic classic and rare British sports cars. Each car was meticulously chosen for its provenance, rarity and condition and every car has its own personal story. The private Hamilton Collection has been managed and maintained correctly in a most beautiful and modern marble floored temperature controlled garage whilst being viewed and enjoyed by close friends and family. It is very seldom that such a private collection of ‘concours’ quality classic cars comes to the market especially as extraordinary and notable as this.
The Wolseley Hornet was a lightweight saloon car produced from 1930 to 1936 and as Wolseley had been acquired by Morris in 1927, the initial offering was in effect a 2-door Morris Minor saloon fitted with a small six cylinder (1271cc) single overhead cam engine in place of the usual 4-cylinder unit. From 1931 the car was available without the saloon body and was used as the basis for a number of sporting specials. At launch the Wolseley Hornet was the smallest capacity six cylinder car on the British market and while factory models sold well, the motoring public wanted to see a Hornet sports car. By February 1931 at least ten coach building companies were simultaneously producing Hornet Specials. The Hornet Special of 1932-34, of which 2,307 were made, had twin carburettors and higher compression.
This truly excellent example has been the subject of a ground up restoration previously. Other work includes an overhaul of the cylinder head, with larger head studs etc., the exhaust manifolds were vitreous enamelled and the carburettors completely overhauled, with re-bushing and renewal of parts where necessary. The car was also completely rewired approx. This is an outstanding example of a very rare car, being one of only seven March bodied Hornet Specials in existence, that is a past concours winner and will grace any collection. Absolutely any inspection is welcome. Part exchange considered. Finance arranged. Free U.K mainland delivery. Shipping and storage facilities. Please contact us for any further information.
